The list of possible wedding DJ services is endless to some extent. A wedding DJ can provide many more services beyond music and being an emcee.
With that said, I think it’s important to know all of the services your wedding DJ may provide.
It will usually cost you less if you hire as many services as possible with the fewest number of vendors.
In this blog, I will list and describe the top wedding DJ services that are most commonly offered.
Wedding DJ Services List
Sound System and Music
This service is the most obvious, so I will cover it first.
It should be noted that although a person may be a DJ, they may not always have their own sound system.
They may borrow someone’s system or use the “house equipment.”
If you are hiring a wedding DJ, you can pretty much assume they have the equipment needed.
However, be sure to communicate in advance with them to ensure they will have the proper equipment needed for your wedding day.
You will also want to ask if their playlist is up-to-date and if they take requests.
Most of the planning for the wedding music is established beforehand.
However, you will still want to make sure you’re DJ has a large song library.
This will give them the flexibility to play the right music at the right time, depending on the vibe of the crowd.

Master of Ceremonies Planning
In addition to planning your music in advance, your DJ will provide you master of ceremonies forms.
These forms will help you get started planning your grand entrance, dedications, cake cutting music, special announcements and dance music.
I personally prefer to give the couples I serve hard copies of these forms upon booking so they can use them as rough drafts.
Then about 30 days before the wedding is a good time for the couple to submit this info to the DJ via the hard copies or on the DJ’s website.
Once submitted, the DJ should arrange a consultation to review all of their listed music, master of ceremonies and timeline.
Furthermore, the DJ should always be available to assist the couple with ideas and recommendations when planning their DJ/MC details.
Emcee
Playing the right music at the right time is definitely an important job of a wedding DJ.
However, not all DJs have the necessary skills needed to be an emcee.
There are some DJs that bring a second person with them to be the master of ceremonies and to get the crowd going with the microphone.
It is important to ask the DJ you are interviewing if they will also be the MC or if you will have to pay extra for one.
Most DJs provide emcee services, but it’s always a good idea to ask.
Some DJs are terrified to speak over the mic, so you want to make sure they are also good at engaging with the crowd.
Otherwise, you might be better off just hooking up a laptop to a sound system with your favorite playlist and save the money on a DJ.
Furthermore, it’s always best if your DJ has a wireless microphone.
It will make it easy to maneuver during toasts, speeches and while they’re entertaining the dancing crowd.
Dance Floor Lighting
Most wedding DJs offer dance floor lighting as part of their DJ package.
Some DJs may charge an extra fee to provide it and some may not.
I have seen DJs that did not provide dance floor lighting at all, so you never want to assume that it’s included.
Some DJs have different levels of dance floor lighting packages.
For example, if a DJ is performing at a larger venue, he or she may need to charge more to bring additional lighting.
Wedding DJ Services List
Photo Booth
That’s right, one of the most common wedding DJ services is a photo booth.
I’d say at least half of the wedding DJs own their own photo booth(s).
Furthermore, if they don’t own one, they can easily contract out a photo booth company to add it to their package.
With that said, if you are considering having a booth at your wedding, be sure to ask your DJ if they provide the service.
They can often add it to their DJ package for less than if you hire a photo booth company.
Some DJs add this additional service to their wedding package for super low prices as an incentive to hire them as your DJ.
Uplighting
Uplighting is a pretty standard service with most DJ companies.
It’s very uncommon to rent uplighting through a different company other than through your DJ.
With that said, there are a few important questions you should ask before adding uplighting to your DJ package.
Be sure to ask if the lights are wireless. Wireless uplighting is safer, looks better and takes much less time to set up.
It is also important to ask if the DJ charges per light or if they charge a flat rate up to a certain number of lights.
Lastly, see if the DJ will meet up weeks or months before the wedding to program a custom color to the lights.
Monograms
DJs love offering monograms for a few good reasons.
They are fairly easy to design, cost very little to produce and they can charge a decent fee for them.
In addition to the DJ designing a monogram, it’s important to know that you can often send the DJ an image that you’ve already designed.
For example, your wedding logo or icon.
Monograms can also be projected pretty much anywhere there is a large and flat surface.
Flat Screen Videos and Picture Slide Shows
Flat Screen Video
Flat-screen videos provided by the DJ are super cool and really add to your dancing experience.
The DJ may run videos related to the music being played or ones that provide the appropriate ambiance related to the event.
Picture Slide Shows
Picture slide shows are a little less common these days, but many DJs offer them.
Basically the DJ will provide a projections screen, projector, and computer to run the slide shows.
Couples will usually provide the DJ with pictures in advance to play on the screen throughout the wedding as ambiance as well.
Jumbo Glow Sticks
Ya just gotta love jumbo glow sticks!
They really boost the energy on the dance floor to a higher level.
Jumbo glows sticks can usually be added to your wedding DJ package for a very small fee.
They are also fun wedding favors as the DJ will usually let the guests take the glow sticks home.
In addition, sometimes guests will ask if they can have a couple of extra glow sticks to bring home to their kids and most DJs are happy to oblige.
“Dancing On A Cloud”
This wedding DJ service is a trend that has become more popular every year.
The DJ will use a low hanging fog that covers the entire dance floor.
It will give the appearance of people dancing on a cloud.
Furthermore, it’s most commonly used during the couples’ First Dance.
If you are considering adding this service to your wedding package, make sure the DJ’s cloud machine works with dry ice.
Some DJ’s may cut corners with a low hanging fog solution that just doesn’t create the same effect.
Furthermore, you will need to check with your wedding venue in advance to see if they allow fog machines of any type as many of them don’t.
Bonus Wedding DJ Service
Cold Spark Machine
The cold spark machine has become very popular over the last few years and has rave reviews.
As of this date, it is one of the hottest wedding DJ trends.
When added to your dance floor backdrop they really make your pictures look brilliant and amazing.
They are also super fun to use during the wedding party’s grand entrance.
Like with the fog machine, you will need to check with your wedding venue to make sure they allow cold spark machines.

How To Find A Wedding DJ
If you want to know how to find a wedding DJ that is perfect for your big day, this blog is for you.
There are many different options that will help you find the right DJ with the right personality at the right price.
I have listed several resources and links to help you get a great start in your search for your wedding DJ.
How To Find A Wedding DJ
Online Wedding Publications
If you want to know how to find a wedding DJ in a very convenient way, I recommend you do a search on some of the more popular online wedding publications.
These platforms include everything thing from DJ bios, past client reviews, pictures and videos of the DJ in action as well as their website and contact info.
It’s the closest thing to a “one-stop-shop” for finding the wedding DJ that is right for you.
Some of the most popular online wedding vendor publications include:
Social Media
Who doesn’t love social media? If you want to know how to find a wedding DJ and have fun doing it, social media platforms are a great place for this.
What I love about social media, is you have a chance to see how the wedding DJs you are considering interacts with the people on their business page.
It’s always a good sign when a wedding DJ replies to comments on his or her posts. It shows that they are personable and approachable.
It’s also nice to see if the DJ posts regularly as this often indicates they are providing their services on a consistent basis.
In addition, social media platforms allow you to follow a DJ to see them in action before even contacting them.
The most popular social media sites for finding a wedding DJ are pretty obvious, but I will list them anyway.
Internet Search Engines
If you want to know how to find a wedding DJ in a more specific and filtered way, search engines are great for refining your search.
You can search for anything via search engines like Google, Yahoo or Bing. If you search for it, you will probably find something or someone that is related to your search.
Search engines provide both paid listings and organic listings.
It’s important to note that there is generally more competition to rank organically on the first page for popular keywords.
So if a DJ company is listed on the first page organically, then there is a good chance their website is a quality site with a good amount of traffic.
How To Find A Wedding DJ
Wedding Expos
If want to know how to find a wedding DJ or any wedding vendor for that matter, I highly recommend you attend wedding expos.
They are super fun and you can save a lot of time booking meetings with vendors because they are already present at the bridal show.
You can usually ask the most important questions for hiring your wedding DJ at the show.
If you’d like to go into greater detail about your wedding and the DJ services, you can also schedule a consultation right on the spot.
In addition, if you are looking to hire a wedding DJ, you can get a great feel for their personality while at the expo.
Many vendors also offer wedding show specials that can save you money as well!
Referrals
As the old saying goes “The best form of advertising is word of mouth.”
This also applies to being referred to a wedding DJ. A recommendation from someone you know is generally a very reliable and trustworthy source of information.
The person referring the wedding DJ may have already hired him or her and knows first hand if they deliver a great service and performance.
It is still important to do your due diligence and learn as much about the DJ as possible before hiring them.
The DJ may have been a great fit for the person who referred them, but he or she may not be a great fit for you.
Furthermore, be sure to take some time to ask your closest family and friends for wedding DJ recommendations.
They have your best interests at heart and want you to have a great DJ.
Local Listings
I love local listings like Yelp or Superpages. They are generally a little less cosmetic and get right to the information needed for contacting and hiring.
For example, when somebody contacts me via a local listing. I book that wedding almost every time.
If you don’t feel like sifting through hundreds of DJ profiles listed on online vendor platforms, then I recommend you cut right to the chase and contact a few of the highest-rated DJs in a local listing.
To be a little more specific in your search, I recommend you search for a local listing in the city where your wedding venue is located.
Not necessarily the city that you live in.
The reason for this is because the DJ is probably familiar with all of the most popular wedding venues in his or her area.
