Of the hundreds of wedding I have serviced, DJing a Detroit Masonic Temple wedding is always a special experience.
Check out the video below featuring many AMAZING moments at one of the weddings I DJd at this one-of-a-kind wedding venue.
CC King at a Detroit Masonic Temple Wedding
If the venue wasn’t beautiful enough naturally, it also looks so gorgeous with uplighting added as well.
Check out the breathtaking picture below with uplighting added to the to massive ballroom’s structural columns.
There is also a very classy area on the second level that you and your guests will LOVE during cocktail hour.
BEAUTIFUL!
In addition to the ambiance of this historic gem, I’ve gotta talk about the acoustic sound of the ballroom!
If you are looking for a BIG acoustic concert sound for your wedding, this is the place!
With that said, I always double up on my audio equipment and lighting anytime I provide my DJ services at this venue.
Check out it out below!
The CC King DJ and Lighting Set Up at a Detroit Masonic Temple Wedding
The Detroit Masonic Temple is without a doubt one of the most iconic structures in Detroit Michigan.
I can definitely say it ranks in the top five of my favorite wedding venues.
Another special feature about this ballroom that I love is the dancing area.
There is more than enough space for everyone to dance the night away all night long!
On that note, I recommend that if you hire a DJ for your wedding at the Detroit Masonic Temple, that you hire one that can really get a lot people on the dance floor.
I DJ at the Masonic about one to two times a year.
As of this date, I am scheduled to DJ a wedding there next year and I can’t wait!
Lastly, if you are looking for the “GRAND STAGE” to host your wedding, look no further than the historic Detroit Masonic Temple.
Your photographer will love it too!

Tents for Rental Guide
Looking for a tents for rental guide that is simple and easy to understand?
You have come to the right place.
In this article, I will cover the most important steps to help you rent the perfect party tent at the perfect price.
So let’s begin.
Tents For Rental Guide
Factors to Address
1. Number of Guests Attending Your Party
The first step in this tents for rental guide is to estimate the number of guests that will attend your party.
You don’t have to have an exact number.
Most party rental companies have tent packages that will give you some flexibility with your guest numbers.
2. Tent Seating Chart
Once you have estimated the number of party guests, you can use a tent chart to select the right size tent.
It’s noteworthy that buffet-style tables can seat more people under the tent than round tables.
In addition, you’ll want to take into account that a frame tent does not have center poles.
This will allow more room under the tent than pole tents.
It’s also important to know sidewalls will slightly reduce the amount of space under the tent.
3. Measure Your Property
Once you have selected the tent size, you’ll need to make sure you have enough property space for it.
Furthermore, it is good to have an extra 5 feet around the perimeter of the tent.
This is so the crew members of the tent company can easily maneuver.
It is strongly advised that you ask the company providing your tent rental to visit your property before renting your tent.
During this visit, they can also measure the space and identify any hazards that may prevent them from setting up the tent.
4. Complete Your Tent Rental Purchase
Now that you have selected the perfect tent to rent, it’s time to reserve the tent for your party date.
It’s also important to take into account the quality of service of the company to provide the tent for rent.
Price isn’t everything. Be sure to hire a tent rental company that is reliable and trustworthy.
5. Party Space Preparation
In addition to preparing your property cosmetically, we also want it to be safe.
With that said, your tent rental company is required to make arrangements for your underground utilities to be marked.
Tent stakes can be up to 3 feet in length and can cause damage to your underground utilities.
Furthermore, you need to remove tree branches that may cause damage to the tent.
6. Tent Installation
On the day in which your tent company will set up the tent, you should provide easy access to the tent space.
This often includes moving cars out of the driveway and making sure all gates leading up to the tent space are unlocked.
Furthermore, someone should be present to answer any questions the tent crew may have during set up.
7. It’s Party Time!
The tent is set up with all of the tables and chairs under it.
You have worked so hard planning your event and now it’s time to enjoy the big day you have long-awaited.
8. Tent Tear Down
After your party is over, the tent company must come to pick up their tent in a timely manner.
In addition, it’s always a nice gesture to fold up the tables and chairs after your party is over.
This will save the tent crew tons of time tearing down the tent.
Finally, like during the setup, it is helpful to make sure the crew has easy access to the tent space for tear down.
Outdoor Wedding Planning tips
Tents For Rental Guide
Through my many years of DJing weddings, I have noticed more and more couples having outdoor weddings. An outdoor wedding can be magical.
Especially if all of the elements are perfect from the sun shinning, stars at night, fresh air and the beautiful sounds of nature.
Outdoor weddings are a hot trend that can’t be ignored. With that said, I thought I would share some outdoor wedding tips from my experiences in providing my services in many different outdoor settings.
Plan your expenses far in advance before sending your invitations
It is often assumed that having an outdoor wedding will save you money. Indeed this is often true, but is not always the case.
Not only will you want to tally up the expenses of hiring all of your vendors far in advance, one thing that is often overlooked is the expense of preparing the property for the wedding.
This can often cost more than the wedding itself!!
I have heard stories of the expenses spent to host an outdoor wedding piling up after sending out the invitations.
Furthermore, couples found themselves in a position where they ended up thousands of dollars over-budget.
Make sure your vendors are insured
Which vendors you may ask? ALL of them!
Possible damage to their equipment or your property both outside and inside may occur and you MUST make sure you protect yourself and the expense of your property if any damage occurs.
Unexpected events are much more likely to occur at an outdoor wedding because banquet halls were designed from the start to host many vendors and guests.
Your property will be modified to host the wedding at a later date than which you purchased or rented it.
I will always remember pushing my DJ gear up a HUGE wet grassy hill on a dolly praying I didn’t slip. I don’t think I’d be here today writing this blog if I did!
Poor Weather Clauses in Contracts
Every vendor should have a clause in their contract covering what happens in regards to the expense for their services if the wedding is disrupted by weather or any other condition.
Inclimate weather clauses are obviously more applicable when hiring your vendors for an outdoor wedding.
However, you should still address this even if your wedding is indoors because people may not show up if they have to drive in extremely poor weather conditions.
Every vendor drafts their contracts in a way that makes the most sense for them and their clients.
Furthermore, I’m not referring so much to a right or wrong way to write up a contract.
However, I can’t stress enough they must have a cancellation clause in their contract that is clear and easy to understand.
Access to Power
This is the most overlooked factor in hosting a wedding outdoors.
It is important to ask ALL of your wedding vendors needing power, how much power they need, if they have the proper extension cords and if they have a backup generator.
Some may charge a small extra fee to bring a generator, but it is imperative to always have at least two backup generators on hand whether they are owned by the host or vendors.
Always remember, no power no party. The important thing is to always plan ahead and have adequate power that is accessible in place.
Portable Bathrooms
This one is pretty straightforward. If you are hosting a backyard wedding, nobody wants possibly hundreds of people walking through their house potentially damaging their property, also tracking in dirt and mud.
Furthermore, you may also need portable bathrooms if you are renting public outdoor space as well. Portable bathrooms can be expensive so be sure to shop around EARLY.
Set up as early as possible
Two things are for sure when hosting any event. It will almost always cost more than planned.
It will also take longer to set everything up than initially planned.
Furthermore, unforeseen circumstances occur at EVERY event and usually more in a less controlled outdoor environment.
It could be bad weather, added time to set up power supplies, poor driving access causing vendors having to walk their equipment across miles of land barefoot in the snow (ok maybe not that bad).
You name it, it could happen, so be sure to plan extra set up time accordingly for an outdoor wedding.
Dance floor or No Dance floor
Renting a standard 12′ x12′ dance floor usually costs around $200 to $300. If you have it in your budget, I advise renting one.
It will look great and actually ties everything together in the dedicated dancing area significantly taking the ambiance of your wedding to the next level.
It also simply tells people where to dance. I have DJ’d outdoor weddings without a dance floor.
It is much easier to build the momentum of the dancers when they are not scattered about in different places.
Not to mention it saves the lawn too!! So if possible, be sure to bring everybody together with a dance floor!

Wedding Music and MC Planning
It is so important to know the wedding music and MC planning steps upon booking your wedding DJ.
Every DJ has their own system for organizing all of the music and master of ceremonies for a wedding.
With that said, I am going to cover the planning steps that have worked best for myself and my clients.
Wedding Music and MC Planning Worksheets
When you reserve your wedding date with your DJ, he or she should send an official wedding confirmation email.
With this email, they will often include your wedding music and MC planning worksheets. You can print these off and use them as rough drafts to record all of your ideas for your wedding music, dedications and grand entrance announcements.
I recommend couples keep these forms in their cars, so if they hear a song on the radio they want to be played at their wedding, they can write it down on the worksheet.
Wedding Song Suggestions
Along with your wedding music and MC planning forms, your DJ should offer several resources for arranging your playlists.
Many wedding DJs will have their top song suggestions on their website.
These are usually just suggestions and you don’t have to use the songs listed.
However, visiting a song suggestion page is a great place to start getting ideas for your music that will best suit your personal tastes.
Pinterest is also a great place to look up a variety of different wedding playlists.
Most importantly, your wedding DJ should make themselves available to discuss your wedding music at any time.
Wedding Music and MC Planning Meeting
Usually, about 30 days before your wedding is the perfect time to submit all of your music and master of ceremonies to your DJ.
Many DJs have a page on their website where this information can be submitted.
Once you send in your ceremony and reception music planning forms, your DJ should contact you to schedule a consultation.
During this consultation, he or she will discuss all of your wedding music, master of ceremonies, floor plan and timeline.
I personally prefer to have this meeting at the wedding venue to see the floor plan in person, coordinate with the venue manager and see where to load in my equipment.
Approve Your Wedding Music
After this consultation, your DJ should prepare all of the music on your planning forms weeks in advance.
They should never prepare your music on the day of your wedding.
Furthermore, they should send you a file with your music so you can listen to it and approve the playlist.
Once all of these steps are complete, you will be confident that your DJ will provide an amazing performance specific to your personal tastes.

Wedding Shower Checklist
Our new 2020 wedding shower checklist will simplify the process of planning your shower and save you a ton of money too!

Wedding Shower Checklist
Wedding Shower Budget
Planning your budget in advance is always important prior to making any purchase or planning any event.
It’s especially necessary when adding your wedding shower as an additional expense to your overall wedding budget.
Establishing this budget will give you direction for all other wedding shower decisions.
It will also help prevent the possibility of overspending on your shower.
Wedding Shower Location
After deciding on your wedding shower budget, you will want to decide if your shower will be indoors, outdoors or both.
It is noteworthy that outdoor wedding showers are becoming more popular.
If the shower is at a house, it is often helpful to expand outdoors to allow for more free space for guests and party items.
Furthermore, it is not uncommon to ask a close family member or friend to to host your shower at their home.
This can potentially save you hundreds to thousands of dollars.
Pick a Date
In addition to selecting the setting for your wedding shower, you will need to see if it’s available on the day that you and your fiance’ choose.
If you really have your heart set on a specific venue, there may be a chance you’ll need to change your selected date in order to book the space.
Be sure to take into consideration the availability of your most exclusive guests when planning your wedding shower date as well.
Furthermore, once your date is set and invitations are sent, it’s not advised that you change your event date.
Select a Theme
Adding a theme to your wedding shower is a lot of fun.
Some of the most popular themes at this time include luau, tea party, roarin’ 20’s, wine tasting and cocktail mixology.
Whatever the theme is, the main idea is to keep the vibe of the party light and fun!
In addition, you can take your guests’ participation to the next level by asking them to dress to match your wedding shower theme.
Mail The Invitations
With today’s technology, there are so many ways to invite guests to an event.
However in my opinion, if it’s within your budget to mail cost-effective physical invitations, I think it’s a great way to kick off the personalized fun for your party.
Furthermore, you will only want to invite guests who are also invited to your wedding.
Finally, although a wedding shower is a more casual event, still ask your guests to RSVP as soon as possible.
Wedding Shower Planning Team
I can definitely say from my 10 years experience that planning ANY event is a lot of work.
Planning a party without a little help from others can also be very stressful.
On that note, be sure to include putting together a planning team to your wedding shower checklist.
Furthermore, asking a few guests to contribute to your shower will help save you time, money and resources.
Most of them will be happy to do so and it often makes for a better party when you have multiple guests offering their ideas.
Make a List of DIY Decorations
DIY decorations can potentially save you hundreds of dollars on your wedding shower.
Furthermore, when coordinating any event, it’s a good idea to FIRST see if you can supply as many of the DIY decorations as possible.
I addition, I recommend that couples spend some time on Pinterest where they can get thousands of great DIY decoration ideas.
Once you have all of your supplies ready to go, invite a few guests from your wedding planning team to help prepare all of the decorations.
Wedding Shower Games
That’s right! Ya just gotta add games to your wedding shower checklist!
There are so many great DIY games that you can include at your event for a very reasonable cost.
It’s also important to ask a few of your guests to bring some of their favorite games as well.
This will help ensure there will be something for everyone to enjoy when it’s GAME TIME!
Space For Wedding Shower Gifts
Don’t forget to address the space for gifts on your wedding shower checklist!
On that note, the party space can often get crowed with everything from drinks, decor, food and guests.
I have literally seen so many gifts at a wedding shower that they took up half an entire room.
We want to have plenty of dedicated space for your gifts so nobody trips on them and so they don’t get damaged.
Time for Toasts
It’s always a nice gesture to set aside about 15 minutes for your selected guests to make a toast.
About one to two toasts is usually most appropriate.
Furthermore, it’s a good idea to keep the wedding shower toasts short, positive and fun, in the spirit of the celebration.
More formal and longer speeches should be saved for the actual wedding day.
Hand Out Wedding Shower Favors
Everybody LOVE party favors!
What better way to show your appreciation to your guests attending your shower than to give them a small gift at your party.
Wedding shower favors can also easily be prepared by buying all of the supplies in bulk and asking a few guests to help you.
Furthermore, this will save you a ton of money as opposed to buying prepackaged favors.
And “That’s a Wrap!”
